When was the last time you felt rested? I mean, you get up in the morning, like in the Serta Perfect Sleeper commercials, and you’re overflowing with confidence and energy and ready to face the day?

If your world is all about balancing caregiving responsibilities for your family to parenting to being a good spouse to work responsibilities, then the last time you felt rested was probably a long time ago.

So, if that's you, then I want you to try to imagine the exact opposite. Where your stress level has been dialled way back to a place you haven’t seen in a long time.

Where you don’t have to be “ON” all the time.

Where you can start planning and dreaming that maybe more is possible.

THAT is what it feels like to have a great caregiver in your life.

I’m serious.

We’ve had caregivers support Ben (and us) for nearly 25 years and I can tell you that those feelings are real, and they are ALWAYS energizing. You can’t seem to get enough of them. They’re intoxicating. And it becomes addictive … in a good way!

You see, when you’re caught up in a world where things just keep piling up and it’s just one battle after another, it’s tough to see your way out.

When Ben was young, I remember being told, and I’m paraphrasing, that “there was nothing anyone can to help you. All conversations were mainly focused on all of Ben’s “problems” and how there really wasn’t a fix to those problems.

It was easy to get caught up in all that negativity, to believe that’s all there was. For a long time, we had no idea what path to follow, or if a path existed at all. With so few giving us much hope, we relied on brute force to get things done and help Ben succeed.

After a few years of that exhausting pace, where it was just me and Jan against the world, so-to-speak, we realized we needed help. We couldn’t do this all our own.

It wasn’t good for our health. It wasn’t good for our relationship. And our kids were certainly not getting the best of their Mom and Dad.

As I, no doubt told you before, we figured out how to bring in a caregiver for Ben. In the beginning, it was only for a few hours a day but it was the start of entrusting others to support Ben. It was a big adjustment, and a lot of work to get it right. But it was the right thing to do.

Because when you find a great caregiver to support your child, your loved one, and your family, your whole life changes … in at least 9 ways that I know of.

(1) a lot of your fears seem to fall away. You don’t realize it all at once but they’re not front and centre any more.

(2) your anxiety and worry is diminished to a level you have not experienced in a while.

(3) You can start to see all of the good things you have in your life – they’ve always been there but you haven’t been able to see them

(4) You are more thankful for all those good things

(5) All the same lines, you begin to feel blessed

(6) You realize that actually you have NOT been abandoned, and not all alone in your journey

(7) Your confidence gets a big boost – this really comes from feeling more rested. Remember how this video started … when was the last time you felt rested?

(8) You can let your guard down, at least for a little bit of the day.

(9) You begin to experience a new freedom, where you don’t have to be your loved one’s hand and feet, all the time.

So what are you waiting for?

When you have a great caregiver in your life, you sometimes forget about your loved one’s health issues because all their needs are so well met. The really good ones kind of float around your home, without you really noticing them, and everything gets done. I mean everything. That’s not an exaggeration.

Once your caregivers are trained and know the routine, they often can do it better than you. It’s at that moment a transformation happens. It’s at that moment you experience that new freedom, when you don’t have to be “ON” all the time!

This freedom was made real again for me the last time I was away for a few days. One evening, I used an app on my phone to peek on Ben through the webcam in his bedroom. He was sleeping so soundly. I didn’t need to be there to make that happen. His great caregiver (who was new) handled everything. I could have my time recharge. And he was fine, and independent (with her support).

The message that “there’s nothing anyone can do to help you” was dead wrong. At the end of the day, there are lots of things that people can do to help you. And lots of people who can help!

We want to be one of those people. We can help you bring a great caregiver into your life so you can experience that amazing new freedom. We’ve developed a formula that shows you step by step how to get there. It’s called the Caregiver Support Formula.

Send me an email at [email protected] and let’s chat about how we can.

That’s why we created Soaring Families. We want to help you be successful and achieve that freedom you deserve.

Take care and keep soaring!
