A crazy but true story!
Before we made the leap to hiring a caregiver, we went for years with me working days and Jan working evenings. We were like two ships passing in the night. But we did what we needed to do since we really couldn’t afford to pay a full time caregiver.
This routine came with a cost. A physical and emotional cost. Until it eventually came time to make the decision that we had to figure out how to leave Ben with a stranger.
A nice stranger, we hoped, but a stranger nonetheless.
When Ben was about 7 years old, we were on the hunt for a part-time caregiver. We found a person who was in her early forties and whose children were young adults.
About 6 weeks into the job, she didn’t show up for work – it was a Friday. She hadn’t called us or gave any indication that she wasn’t feeling well or going to miss work.
